Frequently Asked Questions
Should you have any questions that are not answered below, please call us at (317) 518-9493or send us an email at babywavesultrasound@gmail.com.
What is an elective prenatal ultrasound?
We offer elective 2D, 3D, 4D, and HD Live (5D) prenatal Ultrasounds to provide a positive bonding experience for the mother, father and family members with the unborn baby. We feel that realistic surface images provide a connection between the parents and baby that can be beneficial to the whole family. We make no claims that 3-D ,as used in this examination, is performed to better assess the baby for abnormalities.
A routine Ultrasound examination should have already been performed to assess the gestational age of the fetus and to evaluate for fetal anomalies as well as the basic components of fetal anatomy recommended for screening.
Can this ultrasound replace my ultrasound the physician orders?
Please note that elective ultrasounds are not a substitute for the prenatal care provided by your physician. They are intended for entertainment purposes only. Thank you for understanding."
Do you take walk-ins or do I need an appointment?
Yes, an appointment is required. Thank you for choosing our services. You can easily book an appointment on our website that suits your schedule. We kindly ask you to cancel your appointment within 48 hours if possible, but understand that emergencies happen and appreciate as much notice as possible. Please note we will charge a no show fee if happens twice prior to 48 hr. notice.
When is the best time to get my ultrasound?
-
3D/4D Ultrasound is recommended between 27-32 weeks
-
5-7 weeks - we can do a vaginal ultrasound if we can not see abdominally, we can see the heartbeat and measure it around 6w3d, before that we may not see it. We cannot use doppler (or hear the heartbeat) until you are out of your first trimester.
-
15-20 weeks – Best time to see the baby’s entire body
-
20-25 weeks – Baby’s facial features are more clear and fetal movements are optimally visualized
-
26-30 weeks - Baby’s features are more defined and developed
-
30-36 weeks – Baby’s chubby face, cheeks fingers and toes well visualized (but they are running out of space)
Can I bring my family and/or friends?
Your loved ones are welcome to join us! We have enough room for 2-3 people to sit comfortably, but if you have more guests, they are more than welcome to stand and enjoy the experience with you.
Can I use my phone to record the ultrasound?
Sure, capturing videos and photos with your phone is always welcome! So, go ahead and start snapping away!
What if there are twins?
There is an additional charge for multiple babies (twins ,triplets, etc..), as they require more and more time work to ensure that every moment is captured perfectly. We want to make sure that you have the best experience possible, and we appreciate your understanding."
Can you tell me how much the baby weighs?
I can do measurements to see what the baby weighs but again this does not replace your OB ultrasound provided by your physician. Since it is elective, I do not have a Radiologist or Medical director interpreting the exams.
Why are images not clear?
We try to obtain the best images/videos possible during the 3D/4D session. However, many times the baby can be uncooperative and/or other factors may contribute to not obtaining clear images. Quality will vary by:
-
Low amniotic fluid
-
Late gestational age
-
Sub-optimal fetal position
-
Maternal body habitus (weight, build, size structure)
-
Placental location
-
Baby’s arm, leg, hand, feet, umbilical cord in front of face
-
Face up next to the placenta
Will this ultrasound tell me if there is an abnormality?
Please note that the ultrasounds we offer are elective and intended for entertainment purposes only. They are not meant to replace the medical ultrasounds done at physician's office, which are necessary to assess the baby's well-being and detect any abnormalities. Thank you for."
What types of payment do you accept?
We accept both cash and all types of credit/debit card and Apple Pay. . We do not accept personal checks or insurance.
What is your refund policy?
All sales are final. NO refunds will be given. If the technologist feels it is necessary, we will bring you back for a complimentary re-scan.
Keep in mind every 3D/4D scan can have varying results as every expectant mother and baby are different. Some scans can produce multiple 3D images while others can be a challenge to get 1 face shot. We will offer a re-scan if we are unable to get at least one clear partial face image. Full face images are never guaranteed.
Is there anything I need to do before my ultrasound?
Staying hydrated is important for many reasons, including during pregnancy. So try to be well hydrated the week leading up to your appointment. Bringing a drink to your ultrasound appointment is a smart idea, especially if you're worried about the baby's movement. A full bladder isn't necessary for the ultrasound.
What is the difference between 2D/3D/4D/5D/HD/8K?
2D provides two-dimensional, black and white flat images (most common).
3D creates three-dimensional still images of your baby (frozen picture)
4D is 3D live it is more clear and a live like a video where you can see in 3D but with motion
HD, HD live (also called 5D) more clear, sharper images and uses light placement to enhance certain areas
8K enhances ultrasound images with higher resolution capabilities, which is about 4 times higher than 3D/4D, it is more realistic like a photo
